Azerbaijan sends protest note to Latvia - Latvian school textbook presents Karabakh as independent state
A Latvian geography textbook featuring Nagorno-Karabakh and South Ossetia as independent republics has angered the Azerbaijani residents of the country.
The Azerbaijani Embassy to Latvia has sent a protest note to Azerbaijan over what it claims to be a flagrant error in a geography textbook featuring Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent country.
Geray Muradov, an embassy advisor, has told the APA News Agency that a probe launched in that connection revealed that the textbook is intended for middle classes of secondary schools. The report was also confirmed by the Latvian Ministry of Education and Science.
Citing the country’s Foreign Ministry, the Azerbaijani news agency claims that the “error” doesn’t reflect Latvia’s official position.
The textbook, titled New Geography, also features South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent republics.
