Armenian president, Catholicoi discuss issues related to Armenia, Diaspora -
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Tuesday held a meeting with His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, His Holiness Aram I, the Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, and Catholicos-Patriarch of the House of Cilicia of the Armenian Catholics Nerses Bedros XIX.
According to the presidential press service, during the meeting the sides discussed the close cooperation established between the state and the Armenian churches, as well as issues related to the Homeland and the Diaspora.
They also addressed the important nation-preserving role of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the daily efforts of all sees in solving all-Armenian problems, attaching importance to the activities being carried out ahead of the centennial of the Armenian Genocide.
Besides, Sargsyan, Karekin II, Aram I and Nerses Bedros XIX also discussed the current situation of ethnic Armenians in Syria and issues connected with assistance to them.
“The parties agreed that consolidation of the Armenian people is a guarantee of the welfare of Armenians around the world and the overcoming of the challenges facing the Armenian nation, and from now on it is necessary to continue and make more effective the combination of efforts in solving national issues,” the media release said.
