VIRTUAL MUSEUM PROJECT -
In 2015, with the motto "I remember and I demand”, the Armenians will commemorate throughout the world the centennial of the Genocide committed against them.
One of the educational projects of the Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee of Canada is to establish a virtual museum of surviving objects or artifacts, with the theme of "One hundred survived objects for the centennial of the Armenian Genocide”.
The project will begin in Armenian schools throughout Canada. The students will look for various items in the homes of their families, asking their parents, grandparents and relatives for books, jewelry, photographs, postcards, clothing, costumes, carpets, rugs and other objects that have survived the 1915 Genocide and have been transmitted from generation to generation, reaching us, here and now.
The items will be photographed and the students will record their story, getting to know and claiming our heritage and history.
This work will also be conducted in the community at large with the same objectives.
Through this project we shall become aware of our material cultural heritage that has survived the 1915 Genocide and, at the same time, get involved in the immediate histories of our families and that of our nation, thus especially contributing to the process of transmitting them to the new generation.
